Dear Family and Friends,
The title sounds worse than it is, just wait, it gets better!
This week was really hot, we are hitting a solid 43 C everyday, and from the word on the street (sounds cool right?) its going to be a few weeks before it gets cooler.
Now for the gruesome title. We will start with the cut, I was making a graham cake (Yes, its delicious), and I was opening a box with a butchers knife (The scissors were upstairs so yeah..) I was cutting towards myself (Nate Adamson can take away my Knife Safety Card), and I thought to myself "I might cut myself if I keep doing this, but maybe if I'm careful I can finish this fir..... SLIP!" Well, the knife gave way and I cut my thumb. Now I was ready to blame the knife for giving me a cut, I was ready to blame the cardboard for being to soft, or bad lighting. But when I thought about it the only reason I got cut was because of myself. I had put myself in a position I knew wasn't the best, I ignored what I knew was safer, and tried to tell myself I would be more careful "This time". We often do this when it comes to sin, we try to ask ourselves what the limits are so we can get as close as we can without hurting ourselves, but doing that is like what I did, seeing how close we can get to a blade that WILL slip and cut us. We do this during movies and listening to music by saying "Oh, I'll just skip the bad part" or "I can just not focus on something else". The Savior has given us tools (like scissors), and given us rules (Like Boy Scout Knife Safety classes), to keep us us far away and out of the path of sin. We have prophets, church leaders, the scriptures and other things to keep us far away from the things that would hurt us physically and spiritually, we are much better off "missing out" on a few things instead of trying to "fix" a lot of things. Now in closing, my thumb is fine, I'm still alive, I still have a thumb, and the cut was minor, but the lesson was priceless.
This mission is great, but it goes by too fast!
Mahal ko kayo lahat!
