Dear Family and Friends,
I apologize that I wasn't able to send an email last week, but I have a good reason! If you didn't already know our whole mission was hit by Typhoon Lando this past week, and we were put on lock-down while we waited it out. When we were allowed to leave our house all internet was down so we were unable to email last week. But all is well, I have all my limbs (I think), and we are out working again!
So now for an explanation of what happened. On Sunday we were hit hard, and so they cancelled church. Unfortunately we were out of bread so we had to do the Sacrament with a potato, kinda weird, but had to be done. We were asked to stay inside all day, which about drove us insane. On Monday we were also on lock-down, but my companion and I were given special permission to leave the apartment and buy food and other supplies. During these two days we didn't have electricity for the day time hours. On Monday we were getting ready to go to bed when I received a text from an emergency text-line saying that San Roque (One Asia's biggest dams) was opening their gates, and that Asingan would be flooding at midnight. Almost 5 minutes later I get a call from the mission president's wife telling us to evacuate immediately to the church building because of the flood that was coming. The pictures below are of us leaving the apartment at midnight and sleeping in the church building overnight. When we woke up, we learned that it didn't flood that much and that it was safe to return. Later that afternoon we were out working again! So yeah! It was a scary/exciting adventure!
This week I was teaching in our Elders quorum class about General Conference, and I realized how important it is to trust in the Lord. One of my favorite verses in the Book of Mormon is when Lehi is giving one of his last testimonies to his children in 2 Nephi 4:19-23. I love how he states "I know in whom I have trusted". Which leads me to this question "Do we know who we trust in?". Let me know what your thoughts are, I'm curious. But that's my thought for today!
I will say it again but all is well! I am safe, and fed! Don't worry about us Elders in the Philippines! And like they always say "It's more fun in the Philippines!"
Mahal ko kayo!
